Ottawa County Community Foundation Celebrates 10 Years

October 1, 2010

A perfect September afternoon, enhanced by the beauty of the Schedel Arboretum and Gardens in Elmore, provided the celebrants at the Ottawa County Community Foundation's Tenth Anniversary a memorable day.  About 100 residents from all over the county enjoyed a newly produced video about the Foundation's history, programs and accomplishments.

Guests strolled among the 17 acres admiring perfectly groomed flower beds, unique trees and shrubs, a Japanese garden and sculptures located throughout the gardens.  Many took a garden tour narrated by Elaine Mylander while others enjoyed a butterfly tour conducted by Robert Michael Pyle from Grays River, Wash. and a bird walk led by Kenn Kaufman, highly respected expert and author on birds.

Jazz music performed by Michael Shirtz's Quintet and also a group of his students from Terra Community College in the Trellis Gallery provided pleasant entertainment.

Among guests were seen Duane and Julie Waite, Beth Leggett, Mark and Tina Hablitzel, Mayor Debbie Hymore-Tester and Dennis Tester, Gary and Laura Macko, Ellen Bergman, Chris Galvin, Tom and Betty Marlowe Miller, Les and Linda Wyse, William and Glenna Myers, Margie Bringe and from the Toledo Community Foundation, Bridget Holt.
